West Indies cricketer Devon Thomas has been handed a ban from all cricket by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after admitting to violating several anti-corruption codes across different cricket leagues. The ban, which has been backdated to May 23 of the previous year, was imposed by the ICC, acting as the designated anti-corruption authority.
Thomas' most serious offence involved violating Article 2.1.1 of the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Code during Sri Lanka’s domestic T20 competition. This violation pertained to improper attempts to influence match results in the Lanka Premier League 2021. Additionally, he faced charges for failing to cooperate with the ICC.
Alex Marshall, the ICC General Manager of the Integrity Unit, emphasized Thomas' awareness of his obligations under the Anti-Corruption Codes due to his participation in various anti-corruption education sessions. Marshall stated that the ban serves as a strong message to both players and those seeking to corrupt the sport.
Hailing from Antigua, Thomas made his debut in 2009 and has represented West Indies in 34 matches across different formats, with his last appearance for the team dating back to 2022.
